In almost all cases, cultural studies theorists use capital letters to show emphasis and level of importance. We would capitalize a non-proper noun to make it a proper noun. It can also show ownership, for example, if one says my Mother then the “M” is capitalized, but if one says the mother then the “m” is not capitalized.
