Question 5

Ideology is the set of rules or myths that guides one into making a decision. Hegemony is the concept that a more dominant group can control a society, class, or individual. The Urinal Game lets the player pick which urinal, from a line of six, he would use if he had to go to the bathroom with other people at the urinals. The game shows that when going to the bathroom, men pick the furthest urinal away from everyone else. This decision is based off of the ideology that when men go to the bathroom, they go to the furthest urinal away to not be thought of as “gay” or invading one’s privacy. It is the dominant group, the very masculine men, that set these rules that some know as the “man law”. It is the dominant group that sets these ideologies of proper etiquette for a male going to the bathroom.
